Where do my potential customers hang out online?

If you are a business owner, you have no doubt heard all kinds of conflicting information about where you should be spending your time on social media. Some people say LinkedIn is the best because it’s for professionals, other say you gotta be on Twitter, that’s where communities are built, some are adamant that you need to be on Facebook, and now everyone's saying that you need to be on Instagram. And Snapchat? What the heck is that?

Well holy crap, you don’t have the time to dedicate yourself to all of these places. You have work to do aside from social media - If you joined every platform, you would never get any work done!

So for starters. You do not need to be everywhere. Unless you have a team dedicated to social media, I really advise against trying to be in all places. I recommend choosing 1 platform that will be your main place, then maybe a secondary platform if you have the bandwidth. It’s way better to do 1 or 2 well, than 3 or 4 poorly. You’re better off not having a presence on a site than to have a bad one – it really does do you a disservice and you absolutely lose points in the eyes of your potential customers if they stumble upon a neglected profile.
